Documentary Production

Real people, real places, and the patience to let them tell it their way.

Documentary is where we learned to listen. Our films on the London delivery riders of Alley Cats and on the experimental city of Arcosanti in No Entry Without Guide were made the same way we make a documentary for a company: long interviews, time spent on location before the camera comes out, and an edit that follows what people actually said rather than what we hoped they would.

We produce documentary films, documentary series and short documentary pieces in Milan, across Italy and abroad, for brands, institutions, non-profits and independent projects.

Documentaries for companies and institutions

A corporate documentary is not a corporate video with a longer runtime. It is a film about people who happen to work somewhere: founders, engineers, customers, a community around a place. Brands use it to tell a heritage, a transition or a year of change with a credibility no scripted piece can buy.

For institutions and non-profits, the documentary form is often the only honest one. The interview with a magistrate we filmed pro bono for Legambiente's Premio Luisa Minazzi is an example: one voice, one subject, no decoration.

How we work

Research first: we read, visit and talk before writing a single line of treatment. Then a shooting plan built around availability of people and light, not around a studio schedule. We shoot with a compact crew so that subjects forget the camera, and we record sound as carefully as image, because in a documentary the voice is the film.

Editing is where a documentary is written. We cut in-house, share rough cuts early, and deliver festival, broadcast and online versions with subtitles in the languages you need.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a documentary take?
A short documentary piece can be delivered in six to eight weeks. A feature-length film is a matter of months, and depends mostly on access to people and places. We plan it with you before promising a date.

Do you handle research and interviews?
Yes. Research, interview preparation and conducting the interviews are part of the service. Subjects are more open with the person who has spent time with them, so we do not delegate that.

Can a documentary be used for marketing?
It can, as long as it stays a documentary. We advise on how to cut social and event versions from the same material without breaking its credibility.
